The book Border Conditions presents the results of research and design studio of the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft. The book offers a collection of essays and experimental architectural projects arising from research into the spatial effects of socio-political developments, with an emphasis on the mapping of contemporary urban conditions. The book provides a thematic overview of the contemporary discussion of borders in architecture, ranging from conflict situations to marginal urban areas; from Kinshasa-Brazzaville, Gibraltar, Kaliningrad, Kiev, Benidorm, Marseille to Rotterdam. A selection of projects shows how mapping can be a means to not only register and interpret urban processes, but also how these can generate design principles as a basis for architectural interventions.
